Understanding Values

Understanding your values and how they affect your motivation for life is of great importance in the coaching process. Below is a 4 step process that is a powerful way to begin your journey into understanding your mind and getting it to work for you, instead of against you.

INTRODUCTION

Values are a great place to start in any coaching environment because your values are central to who you are and what you do. They determine our motivation and what makes us happy in life. A person working in alignment with his or her own values is highly likely to be happy and motivated, irrespective of what other things are going on in their life.

 


LISTING YOUR VALUES

The first step is to list down all the things that are important to you in your life, or the area of your life (such as work, home, health etc) that you wish to work in.

ANALYSE YOUR VALUES

Next we analyse these values to prioritise them, find out if we have positive or negative focus, and look for conflicts.

DISCUSS NEGATIVELY FOCUSED VALUES

Final discussion of how negatively focused values cause stress.
